7 Fashion Rules to Follow Every Day ...

By Ellie

If you want to read a post of the fashion trends to look out for next season, then the internet is full of them. This is not that. I love fashion, I subscribe to Vogue, I follow bloggers. But, unless you work in the industry or happen to have a lot of money and free time, keeping up with every trend just isn't possible. It really annoys me when I'm reading a magazine and it seems to assume that every day is a runway, because it isn't, for anyone. So, if you want to look good but don't particularly care about trends, here are some simple dressing tips to follow.

1

Forget the Trends

First things first, stop trying to do whatever we're being told to do. If, for example, double denim is in (it is) and you have it in your wardrobe, and you like it, then by all means wear it. But if not, dress only for yourself - don't dress for a magazine. Fashion is not necessarily synonymous with style.

UPD:

Fashion rules are often seen as a set of guidelines that must be followed, but it’s important to remember that fashion is a personal preference. Everyone has their own unique style and it’s important to express that through your clothing. Don’t be afraid to step outside of the trends and wear what makes you feel comfortable and confident.

When choosing an outfit, ask yourself if you love it and if it truly reflects your style. Don’t be afraid to mix and match different colors, patterns, and textures to create a look that is uniquely yours. Accessories can also be used to add a personal touch to an outfit.

It’s also important to consider the occasion when dressing. Choose clothing that is appropriate for the event and that makes you feel comfortable. Don’t be afraid to experiment with different styles and create a look that is truly your own.

Finally, it’s important to remember that fashion is meant to be fun. Don’t be afraid to express yourself through your clothing and to take risks. Let your personality shine through your style and you’ll be sure to make a statement.

Dress for Your Shape

The amount of people I see wearing clothes that are too tight for them is crazy. It seems to be a real thing amongst younger people - just because bodycon dresses and skinny jeans are popular at the moment doesn't mean you have to wear them! The clothes we see on the catwalks are designed to suit a very narrow range of people. Find out what cuts and styles suit you - spend a day shopping and trying things on, even stuff you wouldn't normally - and stick to it.

UPD:

When it comes to fashion, one of the most important rules to follow is to dress for your shape. Many people make the mistake of wearing clothes that are too tight or too loose for them, which can be very unflattering. Knowing what cuts and styles look best on your body shape is the key to looking your best. The clothes we see on the catwalks are designed to suit a very narrow range of people, so it's important to remember that what looks good on a model may not look good on you.

It's important to take the time to experiment and find clothes that flatter your body shape. Spend a day shopping and trying things on, even if it's something you wouldn't normally wear. Consider different styles, fabrics, and colors to find what works best for you. Pay attention to the fit of the clothing and how it looks on you, and don't be afraid to step out of your comfort zone.

Wardrobe Classics

I have a lot of STUFF in my wardrobe but the things I wear the most are the things that never go out of fashion. I think everyone should have these, for sheer ease alone - try starting with some basic tees, great jeans, a Breton top, a white shirt, black tailored trousers and a dress you absolutely love. Then, build up your own 'classics'; things you'll always wear, like a silky printed shirt, or a leather jacket.

UPD:

Having a wardrobe full of timeless classics is key to having a stylish and versatile wardrobe. Classics are pieces that never go out of fashion and can be worn for years to come. Invest in good quality staples that will last, such as a white shirt, a black tailored trousers, a Breton top, a dress you love, and a few basic tees. Layer your classics with a few statement pieces such as a silky printed shirt or a leather jacket. Invest in good quality fabrics and materials that will last, such as wool, cotton and leather.

When deciding what to wear, take into consideration the occasion. For example, if you’re going to a formal event, a dress and heels are appropriate, whereas for a more casual outing, jeans and a t-shirt can be a great look. To create a timeless look, avoid trends and instead focus on pieces that will never go out of style.

When it comes to accessories, keep it simple. Choose pieces that will complement your look without being too over the top. A few statement pieces like a watch, a belt, or a scarf can add a touch of sophistication to any outfit.

You Don't Always Have to Be 'fun'

Do you know what I mean? I feel like there's pressure on us as women to always have some kind of nod to fashion - when sometimes all we want to do is put on our most boring but comfortable outfit. But that's OK; you're going to have days where you feel like you're part of the scenery, or days when NOTHING will look right. Try not to get stressed out, and remember that really it's just clothes, anyway.

UPD:

Fashion is an ever-changing form of self-expression, and it can be difficult to keep up. Women often feel pressured to look their best and to stay fashionable at all times. However, it’s important to remember that fashion is not always about being “fun”. Sometimes you just want to be comfortable and that’s perfectly okay. You don’t have to worry about trying to keep up with the latest trends. Instead, focus on wearing clothes that make you feel comfortable and confident.

When it comes to fashion rules, there are a few key things to keep in mind. First, make sure to select clothes that fit your body type. Don’t be afraid to experiment with different cuts and styles. Secondly, focus on quality over quantity. Invest in staple pieces that you can wear for years to come. Lastly, don’t be afraid to mix and match different pieces. Experiment with different colors, textures, and patterns to create unique looks.

Don't Underestimate Simplicity

When I see an outfit I don't like, most of the time it's because it's just too much. There's patterns, frills, leather, a ruffle - who needs all that?! If you look back at the women we consider effortlessly, timelessly stylish - Audrey Hepburn, Coco Chanel - they dressed simply. A white shirt with a statement necklace, a simple one-colour dress, stripes, a stand-out full evening skirt with a plain cotton t-shirt - all easy, but beautiful.

UPD:

Simplicity is key when it comes to fashion. It is easy to be overwhelmed with the sheer number of options available, but when it comes to creating a timelessly stylish look, less is more. As style icons such as Audrey Hepburn and Coco Chanel have demonstrated, a simple outfit can be just as effective as a more complicated one. A white shirt with a statement necklace, a one-colour dress, stripes, and a full evening skirt with a plain t-shirt are all classic looks that can be easily achieved.

When putting together an outfit, it is important to remember that it is not necessary to have a lot of pieces. Instead, focus on the quality of the items you choose. Investing in a few quality pieces that you can mix and match will help you create a wardrobe that will last for years to come.

When it comes to accessorizing, it is important to remember that less is more. A few quality pieces can make a big difference. For example, a statement necklace can instantly take a basic outfit to the next level.

Don't Let the Clothes Wear You

Whatever you choose to wear, make it your own. I think the saying 'wear the clothes - don't let the clothes wear you' is so appropriate. If you aren't comfortable in something, it WILL show, even if you actually look great. Don't wear something you don't feel at home in - even if your mum, your best friend AND your boyfriend has told you how great you look.

UPD:

Fashion is a great way to express yourself, but it’s important to remember that fashion should always be about you and how you feel. Don’t let others dictate what you wear or how you dress. Wear what makes you feel comfortable and confident. When it comes to fashion, you should never be afraid to make bold choices. Whether it’s a bright color, a unique pattern, or an unexpected silhouette, fashion should be fun and daring.

When it comes to trends, don’t be afraid to mix and match. Instead of following the latest trends, use them as inspiration to create something unique. Try pairing different prints, colors, and textures to create a look that’s all your own.

Finally, don’t forget to accessorize. Accessories can be a great way to add a little bit of personality to any outfit. Whether it’s a statement necklace, a bold belt, or a pair of eye-catching earrings, accessories can make any outfit stand out.

Take Inspiration

I don't mean from fashion magazines, because what we see in those is normally unattainable. You can get inspiration from anywhere - old films, old movie stars (more realistic bodies, fashions that don't go out of style), on the street, on certain reality shows because the women on them tend to shop on the high street (use with caution). Don't be afraid to cherry pick the best style from the world around you and make it your own - see what you end up with.

Sometimes, getting dressed in the morning can feel like a chore you really just want to avoid. If you don't have a uniform or work from home, it can actually cause quite a lot of anxiety. I hope keeping some of the tips above in mind will help to relieve a little bit of that - they've helped me. What is your advice for dressing stylishly, but simply?

UPD:
