1

Clothes Swap

One of the best ways to renew your wardrobe is to organise a clothes swap. That way, you can get lovely new clothes without spending a single cent! Get together with friends of a similar size, and bring clothes in good condition (nobody wants something in need of repair or worn out). It's a great excuse to clear out items you no longer wear and find them a new home.

2

Flea Markets

Flea markets may have a reputation for being full of tatty garments in need of a good wash, but that's no longer true. They're brilliant for people who love dressing individually and don't have a lot of spare cash. Look for flea markets where the stallholders are individuals wanting to earn some extra money and clear out their wardrobes - you can often find unworn garments still with their tags on.

3

Thrift Stores

Thrift stores are a wonderful resource for the budget dresser, and anyone who enjoys refashioning items. They're a great way for charities to fundraise, and for budget shoppers to add to their wardrobe. Prices are often so cheap that you could find several new outfits with a budget of $50.

4

Refashioning

Do you have items in your wardrobe that don't fit or suit you? Refashion them into something new! With a little imagination you can turn an unloved garment into something you'll wear all the time. Check out my post on refashion blogs for inspiration diy.allwomenstalk.com. If you buy something in a thrift store to refashion, look for items with plenty of fabric.

5

Freecycle

Freecycle can occasionally come up with some gems. The purpose of the site is to keep items out of landfill, and there is a lot of unwanted clothing out there! So join your local group and keep an eye on posts - someone may offer clothes in your size and you'll need to be quick to get a message to the person offering.

Garage Sales

Garage sales are a wonderful opportunity to pick up very cheap clothes. There may be brand new items for even less than thrift store prices. They're fun if you enjoy the thrill of stumbling across random items, and bagging lots of clothes for a few dollars. Keep an eye out for signs advertising sales in your neighborhood; people often want very little for items they no longer want.

7

Granny's Attic

Have you ever rummaged in your gran's attic? Don't assume that her wardrobe has absolutely nothing you'd wear. There could be plenty of vintage gems or items that you could alter. If you're really lucky, your gran may have a treasure trove of quality items that you'll love just as they are.

A limited budget need not stop you from adding to your wardrobe. There are so many sources where you can find great bargains, so it's easy to bag yourself some smart new outfits without breaking the bank. There's nothing like having an outfit admired and smugly telling them it cost you $5! What's the best clothing bargain you've ever bought?
