Off the runway, models are becoming increasingly well-known for their signature styles and many are seizing the opportunity to build upon their personal brands. Being so immersed in the fashion industry, it’s no surprise that some models are taking their careers to the next level by turning to design. These are just some examples of models turned fashion designers.

Alessandra Ambrosio Alessandra Ambrosio is one of the most recent additions to the list of models turned fashion designers. Her debut collection for Californian fashion and lifestyle brand Planet Blue is called Ále by Alessandra. The collection is inspired by the Brazilian model’s own laid-back Bohemian-inspired style and features plenty of soft fabrics and flowing shapes.

Lily Aldridge Lily Aldridge has worked with Velvet by Graham & Spencer for 10 years now, so going from modeling to designing her own collections for the brand seemed to be a natural progression. She has released two capsule collections for the brand, consisting of versatile daywear pieces from plaid shirts and military-inspired jackets to sheer knitwear.

She teamed up with the brand’s co-founders to create a capsule collection of jeans, shirts, and sweaters. The collection was very much in keeping with the model’s signature off-duty look of skinny jeans, slouchy tops, and leather-look finishes.

Sophie Dahl Former fashion model and author Sophie Dahl created a capsule collection for British cashmere label Brora in 2013. The collection, called ‘The Lost Weekend,’ was made up of 13 pieces and was designed with the former model’s own wardrobe gaps in mind. Pieces included tea dresses, slouchy jumpers, and cashmere cardigans in a predominantly pale colour palette.
