1

Jeans

Jeans have long been a washing conundrum, with some old wives tales telling you that you never have to wash them at all! Sure, there is no question that overwashing a pair of jeans can remove colour and affect the shape, but if you are wearing them all the time, of course, you have to clean them at some point! If you want to be completely sure that you are keeping them in good condition, it is said that a wash after five or six wears is ideal for denim.

2

Dresses

Lots of dresses, especially looser, more summery ones, can often get away with a few spritzes of fabric cleaner over the course of a week or so, but when you have been fully active in them and they start to pong, a light scrub in lukewarm water and detergent is recommended. If a dress is made from delicate fabric, you don’t always want to put it through the rigours of washing machine.

3

Bra

This is another one that causes lots of arguments! The general consensus is that you should wash your bra after two or three consecutive wears. A garment that sits so close to your arm pits shouldn’t be made to wait too long before being properly cleaned!

4

Pyjamas

We tend to let our pyjamas go on without washes because we never leave the house in them, and whilst I too am guilty of leaving them for longer than I know I should have, the recommended advice is to wash a set after you have been sleeping in them for a week. Did you know that dirty pyjamas have been linked to thinks like acne and cystitis?

5

Handbag

You never think about washing your handbag until you have to dig your hand right in to the bottom of it and touch all that horrible gunk! If you want to be completely germ free on your daily activities, then machine washing a compatible handbag every two weeks is a good routine to get in to. If not able to wash them, do a sponge clean.
