Not All High Fashion is Couture

It might all seem to be in that upper echelon of style, but a high fashion brand can only be regarded as haute couture when it has released a collection of at least twenty-five outfits, made by hand from rare or precious fabrics, with the added requirement of being produced in Paris!

The Clients Aren’t Always Who You Think

When you think of haute couture you immediately think of Paris because that is where the garments are supposed to be produced, but the biggest client bases for this type of high fashion are actually Russia, China, and the Middle East. They love that cutting-edge European style.

UPD:

High fashion isn't just for the wealthy elite; it's also for those who want to express themselves and make a statement. Many of the leading fashion houses in Europe are now catering to a wider range of customers, including those from the middle class. In addition, the global market for high fashion is growing, with countries like India, Mexico, and Brazil becoming major players in the industry. Furthermore, many of the top fashion designers are now creating collections for plus-size women, demonstrating that fashion is indeed for everyone. Finally, the demand for sustainable and ethical fashion is on the rise, as more people are looking to support brands that are making a conscious effort to be eco-friendly.

Expensive Sunglasses

It is true that most high fashion pieces are expensive, but none are marked up more than pairs of sunglasses. In many cases, for many high fashion brands, their signature sunglasses can make up to 800 percent profit compared to manufacture price. That’s just how much people care about having a specific name on the side of their shades!

4

Models Paid Less

They might get more critical and fashion acclaim, but high fashion runway models actually paid less on average than more commercial catalogue models. High fashion modelling is better for a CV and for an image within the industry, but it definitely isn’t the most efficient way to make money.

5

First Fashion Week

Lots of people make the mistake of thinking that New York has always been the the location of the first Fashion Week of each year, but that is not the case. Up until 1998, New York Fashion Week was held after all of the European shows. This all changed when European fashion legend Helmut Lang moved headquarters to NYC and announced the newer, earlier date for his shows. Names like Calvin Klein and Donna Karen quickly followed suit!
