Leave the past in the past

Leaving the past behind is one of the top simple steps to declutter your wardrobe. You might have a few garments in your wardrobe that you wouldn’t dream of wearing now, but that hold some sort of special memory or significance for you from the past. When it comes to decluttering, there is no time for sentimentality, so you need to be harsh with yourself and leave the past in the past! Banish these items to the charity pile and you will be so much happier with the space that you are left with for contemporary clothing.

2

Are You Going to Wear It?

We are all guilty of those impulse buys that feel perfect at the time, only to realise when you get home that the garment really doesn’t suit you at all! You need to be honest with yourself in these situations and ask yourself if you are you really ever going to wear these clothes? If you know that the answer is no, then you need to do the right thing and move those garments on to charity or to put them up for sale online!

3

Breathe New Life

Instead of buying heaps of new clothes for the new year, instead look back at your old garments and see if you can update them by introducing new accessories into the mix instead. If you know full well that you don’t have the room for a whole new series of outfits, then you need to try to make the most of what you already have to avoid too much clutter.

4

Seasonal Transitions

Rather than having all of your clothing out in your wardrobe at all times, try to be season specific. Send up all of your summer clothing to the attic in safe storage boxes so that your winter garments have room to breathe and be noticed. There is no need to have unseasonal clothing in full view because it will only serve to make your closet much more cluttered than it needs to be.

5

Back to Basics

When you are sorting through clothes to decide what to banish and what to keep, it is always best to stick with all of your basic staples that you can build outfits from. It the choice is down to the classic denim skinny jeans and the leopard print leggings, go with the classics jeans every single time!
