1. Take It All out 💆
The best way to truly organize and clear out your closet is to start with a blank canvas. This means taking all of your clothes and accessories out so that you can put things back in an organized way.
2. Make Piles
Look at the clothes that you’ve taken out and start separating them into piles: what you wear often and stuff that you haven’t in a while. If you can’t decide, then you can put those pieces into storage bins and clear them out at a later time.
3. Make Even More Piles
The clothes that you don’t want to keep any more can be further broken down into two categories: trash 🗑 and donations. Throw away anything in poor condition, and donate whatever you can to those who need it more.
4. Turn up the Radio 📻
While you’re cleaning out your closet, it helps to have some upbeat music playing so that you can be motivated. This will keep you going so you can finish the task!

5. Rotate for Seasons 🍁
If you keep all of your clothes in your closet year round, consider putting away what you don’t need at the time. Pack away winter gear in the summer ☀️ and visa versa. This way you’re not wasting space.

6. Organize
Now you can start putting things back in your closet, but when you do, organize it so that it is more cohesive this time around. You can choose to do it by color and by item type, such as pants, dresses, and tops.
7. Takes Notes 📝
Once you have everything put back and organized, make sure to take note of what you have so that you can make smart shopping choices in the future.
These are just a few ways to detox your closet so that you can breathe easier and be less cluttered. If you have any other suggestions, feel free to leave them in the comments!
