1

Sheer

Sheer Sheer is back again as one of the trends for spring 2014! Spotted on the runway shows of Elie Saab, Louis Vuitton and Marchesa, sheer tops are sexy yet sophisticated when paired with the right undergarments. Sheer tops are perfect for when the weather starts getting warmer in late spring. Also, they’re easy to dress up or dress down and are usually affordable and accessible at most malls and shopping centres.

2

Cropped Tops

Cropped Tops Cropped tops were on a lot of runways for spring 2014! Cropped tops are sexy without being inappropriate. Plus they’re super flirty without giving too much away ... after all, less is more. The designers at Alexander McQueen, Jil Sander, Just Cavalli must think so since the cropped top look was prominently used throughout their collections. So come on girls, let’s let those belly buttons loose!

3

Deep V’s

Deep V’s Is cropped or sheer tops a little too revealing for you but you still want to show some skin as the weather gets warmer? Why not try blouses with deep V’s? I know what you’re thinking... "Plunging necklines are way more revealing than a cropped or sheer top!" Not necessarily! You can always wear a NARROW deep V! That way you can give a hint of side boob if you like or just expose the space in between the breasts. Check out Diane Von Frustenberg, Givenchy and Jason Wu’s spring 2014 collections for a variation of deep V’s!

Blazers

Blazers The weather is starting to warm up but it’s not hot or warm enough to go out without an extra layer. A light sweater or cardigan will do but a blazer is a beautiful alternative. For next season, oversized, tailored blazers are a must! DKNY, Marc by Marc Jacobs and Rodarte show us a multitude of ways to wear blazers for next season! So start thrift shopping ladies, I’m sure there’s abundance of oversized blazers waiting to be worn.

5

Print

Print The perfect way to stand out from a sea of blandness is wearing big, bold print! And don’t be afraid to mix prints, patterns or textures... they’re all your friends. I used to think prints, especially on dresses, were too much, too loud and too tacky but these design houses proved me wrong! If you think prints are too much then you definitely need to check out Balmain’s, Dsquared2’s and Emilio Pucci’s fashion show!

Knee Length Skirts

Knee Length Skirts Who wears short shorts? Not Victoria Beckham, Ferragmo or Rag and Bone! Even though you’ll be showing off your belly button, you better hide those knees come spring time! Just a side note for those of you who are on the shorter side, such as myself - make sure your knee length skirt (or dress) hits right above the knee or in the middle of the knee cap. Anything longer (below the knee cap) will make your calves look shorter and wider.

7

Navy

Navy Are you as surprised as I am? I also associate navy with fall and winter so I was intrigued when I saw navy be so prominent in Givenchy’s, Fendi’s and Donna Karan’s collections. With that being said, navy is just as slimming as black, a little more exciting than most neutral colours, it’s not as heavy as black or as drab as grey and it’s a very classic colour. So it makes perfect sense that it will be a trendy colour this upcoming spring!

Although trends are fun to follow it’s also important to find your own unique style. If you’re still trying to figure out what you do and don’t like, try out the trends mentioned above next spring. What other trends do you think will be popular spring 2014?
