7 Fabulous Ways to Wear Bodysuits like Ri-Ri ...

There is no denying that it takes a lot of confidence to wear bodysuits. It feels like stepping outside in your underwear at times! It seems the '80s trend is definitely making a comeback, though. Even Rihanna has been snapped in a cute sheer-and-sequin bodysuit, while partying at a carnival in Barbados. So how do you wear bodysuits without looking crazy, or half-naked?!

The Inspiration…

The Inspiration… Rihanna’s friend Melissa Forde shared a number of snaps of the singer getting ready, including this one which shows the glitzy bodysuit in it’s entirety. The backless design also features a sequined collar and sides, along with cut-out areas just above the hips. Rihanna went for a low-key way to wear bodysuits shoe-wise, teaming her white outfit with monochrome converse, and her naturally curly hair. She even went for barely-there makeup! Just leave that veil at home unless you are going to a carnival too…

Skirted…

Skirted… Don’t fancy showing off your thighs? Go for a classic retro-styled bodysuit, and team it with a tight leather skirt. I love this Love & Liberty Monaco bodysuit from ASOS, with its soft cotton material and sweetheart neckline, and there are plenty of similar ones around. Then opt for a short retro leather mini and some metallic sandals. Bright red lips will finish the look – it’s very Sandy from Grease!

Mesh…

Mesh… Mesh has been everywhere this season, and bodysuits are no exception. There is no real way to pull a bra off with this look, so if going bra-less isn’t an option, give it a miss. Otherwise, grab a high-necked suit and team it with tight trousers or rock it on its own with sheer black heels. This ASOS bodysuit has a stretch cotton back with low legs, making it feel more like a short playsuit than a bodysuit, which is perfect if you are feeling shy.

4

Bold…

Bold… Bold prints are another seasonal trend that seem to have covered everything, and the look works very well on a skimpy bodysuit. I love this pale-pink and black version from ASOS, which features a very low-cut back along with an eye-catching minds eye symbol. Go for a grunge glamor look by wearing it with big earrings (I totally need these cross ones!), bold lips and chunky shoes. Tie-dye shorts are a great way to cover up when you need to, too.

5

Intergalactic…

Intergalactic… Victoria Beckham’s new collection features a galaxy-print shirt that all the fashion critics loved, so you can be sure it’ll be all over the high streets soon enough. This ASOS bodysuit has the same space-age feel, featuring stars, fire and rain, along with a scoop neckline and low back. It’s a thicker material than you’d expect, making it flattering and warm, and it looks stunning worn with glamorous accessories such as dangly earrings, strappy sandals or embellished shorts.

Grunge…

Grunge… This Freak of Nature jumpsuit from ASOS combines a grunge feel with a very retro style. The thick straps, bandeau top and full briefs create curves, and the striped panels add a modern touch of color. There is even under-bust cut-out areas. It’s made from jersey, which is thick enough to flatter and smooth, and means it can be worn with almost anything. For festivals and parties, go for cut-off denim shorts. On cooler days, try denim skinnies or a plain maxi skirt.

Long-Sleeved…

Long-Sleeved… Not all of the ways to wear bodysuits involve flashing the flesh, and this Aqua Porta bodysuit from ASOS is ideal for covering up. For a classic look, opt for the black version and team with white linen trousers or a fashion-forward white peplum skirt. The neon orange version has a much more casual, eye-catching look, but is perfect teamed with toned-down black – try a midi length leather skirt for best results! I love the paneled seams, cut-out back and round neckline. It’s comfort personified.

So, are you tempted to try any of these ways to wear bodysuits?! It’s a look that can seem really daunting, but worn right, it’s very high fashion. It’s super flattering, too – give it a try next time you are planning a big Nando’s feast! Do you have a great way to wear bodysuits? Let me know!
