5 Must Have-Shoes for Autumn ...

By Sheila

Wave goodbye to your sandals, pack up your flip flops and say adios to your peep toes and sling backs, autumn is here and with it comes rain, wind, cold temperatures, more rain and even snow. But, your feet needn’t despair; you don’t need to swap to Uggs and ugly shoes. There are plenty of adorable and covetable autumn shoe styles to choose from. Here are five of the best, i.e. the best at scoring fashion points and keeping your twinkle toes toasty.

1 Brogues

BroguesHeeled brogues are very ‘19th century school teacher’. They are sexy in a stern, ‘proper’ kind of way, but above all, being made of leather and keeping your feet enclosed they are warm and waterproof. Heel height is what turns these otherwise standard shoes into something extraordinary; opt for delicate, stiletto heels and plenty of pattern detail. A soft brown colour is infinitely more appealing than stoic black.

2 Loafers

LoafersLoafers are rapidly becoming a great alternative to the ballet shoe. They are a feminine looking flat, that gives off an air of style and class – Pippa and Kate Middleton are big fans. You can pick between a moccasin style or a cut verging on a boat/deck shoe. Either way, opt for soft leather in light golden brown, red or silver.

3 Shoe-boot

Shoe-bootOozing 14th century French court style, the shoe-boot is back this winter. Suede is the material du jour and colour wise you need to go for a warm palette of aubergine, taupe and burgundy. Choose a thick heel and chunky platform to give these shoes some oomph.

4 Riding Boots

Riding BootsAnother flat option are leather riding boots. You can choose between knee-length or over-the-knee and from a range of colours focusing on autumnal tones of red, orange, light brown and mustard. Studding, belts and buckles add interest, but the most important factor is the material itself. Ideally you should splash out on a real leather pair. Seeing as almost half your leg is covered, it needs to be covered in the real thing.

5 Platform Court Shoe

Platform Court ShoeYou could call these shoes bog standard, and in many ways there are. The classic court is a wardrobe staple, but this year huge platforms and vintage styling has been added, taking them away from anything remotely classed as ‘bog standard’. Suede adds a new richness and chic colours of blue, purple, beige, salmon pink, orange and brown elevate these shoes to the top of your must-have shoe pile.

House of Fraser‘s women’s shoes are particularly on-point this season. It has a massive range of all the latest styles including the season’s must haves mentioned above.
