7 Pieces of Fashion Advice for when You Turn 30 ...

By Alicia25 Comments

It is hard to find fashion advice for when you turn 30 but it is very necessary to have. Things seem to change and shift a lot when you turn 30 and I am not just talking about body changes. Our perception of ourselves changes and it is as if we realize that it is time to reevaluate who we are and how we present ourselves to the world. At least that is how it was for me. I hope this fashion advice for when you turn 30 is helpful to you in your life.

1 Pack Away the Minis

I am not saying you can never wear a mini again but it is usually a good idea to work into longer hemlines when you hit the big three oh. If you continue wearing minis, it can look like you are dressing too young or trying too hard to be sexy. Sexy really isn’t about how much skin you show, anyways. It is more about having an alluring look mixed with a good dose of confidence. This is tip number one for fashion advice for when you turn 30.

Frequently asked questions

2 Watch Where Wording Falls

I am not a big fan of clothing that has wording on the rear. But I think this is especially inappropriate for ladies when they hit 30 and beyond. It is also one thing to wear a clothing item like this in the privacy in your own home but quite another to wear it out to eat, shopping or to another activity. I don’t know about you, but the last thing I want to draw attention to is the seat of my pants when I am out in public. I would much rather be noticed for having beautiful eyes or a pretty smile.

3 Invest in a Good Bra

You know, let’s just be honest here. Time takes its toll on ‘the girls,’ doesn’t it? While you may have been able to get by with a cheap bra in the past, it is probably time to invest in some bras that offer you the support that you really need. While everything has not gone completely south, I will say that I love the look of wearing a good bra. My clothes look better and my figure is more attractive.

4 Don’t Wear Mom Jeans

Do we even have to go there? I hope most of you know this but just in case some of you don’t, let’s talk about it. Do not wear jeans that are old looking, shaped funny or would otherwise be classified as mom jeans. Just because you are turning 30 or over 30 does not give you the right to let yourself go and put on jeans that look like they belong in the ‘90s. There are still many options available to wear when you are in your 30s that are beautiful in terms of jeans. My favorite go to jeans are American Eagle; overall, the store is a bit young for me but the jeans from there are perfectly age appropriate.

5 Try the Misses Section

When you turn 30, it is time to say goodbye to the juniors section of the store if you haven’t already. Move over a few feet to the Misses section and you will find much more age appropriate clothing. For a long time, shopping in the Misses section did not feel comfortable to me. But with some help from a friend, I began to see there were a lot of cute tops, dresses and skirts that looked beautiful once I tried them on. Now that I have made this transition, it feels uncomfortable to think of shopping in the juniors section.

6 Get Rid of Character Tees

Character tees are fine past 30 when you are home in your yoga pants or maybe helping out with a messy craft day at your child’s school. But I don’t think they send the message that you are a capable and competent adult. That being said, they are probably not the best choice for times when you need to have your adult face on. I know that, as cute as they are, they don’t make me feel very grown up. If it is an item of clothing commonly seen on teenagers and very young adults, it probably isn’t for you.

7 Watch the Fit

Ladies, it is important to wear clothing that fits us properly. This does not mean that we should all wear baggy clothing or tents. That is not properly fitting clothing, either. Aim to go neither too tight nor too loose. Clothing that has a proper fit is much more flattering. This is an important factor to mention because many of us wore tighter clothing when we were younger and that needs to shift once you turn 30.

Turning 30 means some changes need to occur in your wardrobe. What is the best piece of fashion advice that you have to offer for when you turn 30? I would love to learn from you!
