8 Top Places to Buy Prom Dresses ...

By Sophia

Where to buy a prom dress is a question that I haven’t had to deal with in quite a while, but I’ll do my best to answer it. When it comes to where to buy prom dresses, you can either go down one of two paths: online or in store. Since most of you are reading this online already, we’ll start here. Take a look at the following places for where to buy a prom dress online.

1 Nordstrom

NordstromThe Nordstrom online website is a great place to start if you’re looking at where to buy prom dresses. They have a helpful Prom Style Guide that allows you to shop all the dresses, particular trends, and even add the finishing touches such as shoes and accessories. It’s pretty much your one stop shop for all your prom outfit needs.

2 Modcloth

ModclothIf you prefer understated, vintage-inspired style then this site is a great place to browse for prom dresses online. Click on the ‘party’ dress section to browse a range of cute and stylish designs. Most of the dresses are reasonably priced and come in at under $100 too, which is always a bonus when looking at where to buy a prom dress.

ASOS.comThe ASOS website is a behemoth. You’ll find a range of fashion items and accessories to suit a variety of styles and budgets. They have a comprehensive section of party and formal dresses, and at reasonable price points. The only downside is not being able to try them on but their sizing guides and returns policy is pretty helpful. They also have some country specific sites, which is a bonus.

4 Topshop

TopshopWhile Topshop is known for their everyday fashion, they also stock a range of boutique and stand alone labels. The stock does vary seasonally though, so sometimes you might find a plethora of prom-appropriate dresses on the site and other times you might not. If you’re fortunate enough to live near an actual Topshop store, then you’ll also be able to try dresses in store and view a larger range of styles.

5 J.Crew

J.CrewIf you want to know where to buy a prom dress, J.Crew is a great place to look for elegant and on-trend styles. The current season stock contains a vibrant range of colours from hot pinks to apple greens. My picks include the ‘Blakely’, ‘Arabelle’ and ‘Pink Flamenca’ dresses. Note that dresses will set you back at least a couple of hundred dollars.

6 the Outnet

the OutnetFor the fashion savvy, The Outnet is where you can grab a designer bargain. They stock a range of designer gowns, party, and evening dresses. The only downside is that stock and sizes can be limited, and the more popular styles tend to sell out rather quickly.

7 eBay

eBayIf you know what you’re looking for, eBay can be a lifesaver. When buying a prom dress from eBay, do it well in advance. You want to leave time for shipping and any other unexpected turns of events, such as returns or getting the garment altered. When looking at where to buy prom dresses online, eBay isn’t a 100% foolproof choice so always have a backup plan.

8 Shopbop

ShopbopIf you have a budget of at least a couple of hundred dollars (you lucky thing), then Shopbop is a great place to look for prom dress inspiration. They stock a range of party dresses from brands such as Tibi, Rebecca Taylor, and BCBMAXAZRIA. Simply click on the ‘evening/cocktail’ dresses tab to get started.

Despite not having attended a prom event in recent years, that doesn’t mean I don’t enjoy a pretty frock. These are all great sites for looking at where to buy prom dresses online. What’s your best tip for where to buy a prom dress?
