9 Fashion Week Trends to Take Notice of Now ...

By Sophia8 Comments

The fashion week cycle is underway and we’ve already spotted a few emerging fashion week trends. Despite the vast range of designers, in many different cities, you’ll often see recurring themes or trends among the fashion shows. Looking at fashion week trends is a great way of predicting what will be in fashion in the coming seasons. It could be anything from certain colours and silhouettes to statement accessories. These are just some fashion week trends to take notice of right now.

1 Shearling

One of the big fashion week trends to take notice of right now is shearling. The stuff seems to be all over the runways! Rag & Bone, Reed Krakoff, Coach, and Alexander Wang are just a handful of designers who incorporated shearling into their collections. Needless to say there will be many more to come.

Frequently asked questions

2 Feathered Accents

It seems like the fashion flock love feathered elements right now. Feathered fringing could be found anywhere from dress hemlines at Jenny Packham to boot trims at Tracy Reese. The head-to-toe feathered look of past seasons is hard to translate into the real world so subtle accents and trims are where it’s at right now.

3 Hand Prints

It’s quite uncanny that you’d see such a specific motif splashed across many different collections. But that’s what we saw at Opening Ceremony, Alice + Olivia, and Karen Walker. Hand motifs and prints took centre stage and adorned everything from sweaters to dresses. Keep an eye out for this ‘it’ trend in the near future.

4 Turtlenecks

Turtleneck tops might have fallen out of favour in the past but they are back with a vengeance. They’re also quite practical if you ever find yourself stuck in a polar vortex. Calvin Klein, Dion Lee, and Helmut Lang are just a few designers who have embraced the turtleneck.

5 Oversized Knits

Oversized and unstructured knitwear was another trend favoured by designers. They were oversized and exaggerated at The Row, thick and chunky at Michael Kors, and patched up at Tommy Hilfiger. Also keep an eye out for oversized knitwear in graphic prints and furry textures.

6 Plaid

We’ve been seeing a lot of plaid lately and now it has been taken to the next level. Graphic plaid prints were seen at Marc by Marc Jacobs and over at Delpozo it was all about oversized plaid prints in brightly coloured hues.

7 Cropped Trousers

Cropped trousers are another trend sweeping the runways. While cigarette and tapered pants have been popular the past few seasons, looking forward we’ll be seeing a lot more of flared trousers that are cropped just above the ankle. Check out Band of Outsiders and Tory Burch for your fashion week inspiration.

8 Patchwork

Proenza Schouler, Derek Lam, and Thakoon all featured clothes that had a patchwork element to them. And it was patchwork with a twist – more often than not you would find contrasting fabrics fused together to create interesting textured effects.

9 Statement Fur

Fur – be it the real thing or imitation – was another popular feature of many of the designer runways. It’s not your classic fur stole or coat either, with this season’s fur all about making a statement. Think brightly coloured jackets at Preen and graphic printed coats at Altuzarra. Whether you like the furry stuff or not it’s hard not to take notice of this trend.

These are just some recurring trends that have been spotted during the recent fashion week cycle. Have you been keeping up with fashion week coverage? What trends are you taking notice of right now?
