By Avantika7 Comments

The Oscars are the biggest thing in Hollywood and it goes without saying that all the stops are pulled out when it comes to dressing up for the awards. But of all the dresses that walk the red carpet, only some create such an impression that you’re left talking about them for a long time to come. Here I’ve put together 13 Oscar fashions that I’ve we’ve loved over the years.

1 Jennifer Lawrence 2011

This Calvin Klein stunner is one of the best ways anyone has worn red. Ever. With that gorgeous hair and natural makeup, Jennifer Lawrence showed all the fashionistas out there how to look drop dead gorgeous without sequins and bling.

Frequently asked questions

2 Anne Hathaway 2009

Anne Hathaway might not have won that coveted statuette in 2009, but she definitely wowed on the red carpet. She looked quite statuesque herself in an Armani Prive gown embellished with mother of pearl that showed off her trim figure. I think this is one of her best looks.

3 Nicole Kidman 2007

I absolutely love Nicole Kidman’s 2007 Oscar look. Her beautiful Balenciaga red dress complemented her perfectly. And that bow! Oh isn’t that bow is absolutely divine, ending in that lovely train behind her. Such a lovely take on a classic train don’t you think?

4 Renee Zellweger 2001

This yellow gown by Carolina Herrera stands out amongst all the Oscar fashions over the years. Perfectly suiting Renee’s petite frame, this color was (and still is) and uncommon choice for the red carpet. And therein lies its charm and appeal.

5 Charlize Theron 2004

The year she took an Oscar home, Charlize Theron stopped the presses with her drop dead gorgeous look on the red carpet. In a glittering Gucci gown, Charlize showed off her super fit form. And as alluring as the gown was in the front, it was hotter in the back!

6 Julia Roberts 2001

Julia Roberts looked absolutely perfect when she won an Oscar in 2001. Wearing vintage Valentino with an updo and that million dollar smile, she looked like the epitome of grace and beauty.

7 Jessica Alba 2006

I love Jessica Alba’s 2006 Oscar night look where she wore a gold Versace halter neck gown, paired with minimalistic jewelry and hair worn up. So so pretty! The choice of gown was perfect with her bronzed and sculpted body right?

8 Halle Berry 2002

Halle Berry made history when she won an Oscar in 2002. But it was more than that that made the news. Her Elie Saab dress caught everyone’s eye and is one of my favorite Oscar dresses. The gorgeous wine color paired with the peek-a-boo top (with strategically placed embroidery) makes for such a beautiful look, yes?

9 Hilary Swank 2005

Hilary Swank knew what she was doing when she wore this Guy Laroche creation to the 2005 Oscars. This is a truly spectacular backless gown and shows off the Oscar winner’s athletic form and super sexy back to perfection. This is pure love!

10 Mila Kunis 2011

I love Mila Kunis. And I’m in love with this lavender chiffon gown from the Elie Saab Haute Couture Spring Collection 2011. With some pretty and delicate lace detailing (especially around the neckline), this gown is a perfect combination of romance, whimsy and feminine grace.

11 Michelle Williams 2006

This stunning Vera Wang gown that Michelle Williams wore to the 2006 Oscars will always be one of my favorite red carpet looks. Just look at that rich saffron marigold color. Michelle totally channeled old Hollywood glamour when she smiled for the cameras that day!

12 Lupita Nyong’o 2014

Since this was just last year, I’m sure you remember just how pretty Lupita Nyong’o looked in her custom made Prada gown. In a delicate shade of blue and with a lovely silhouette, this look is definitely one of the best Oscar red carpet looks of all time.

13 Jennifer Lawrence 2013

Ending the list the same way I started, here is Jennifer Lawrence’s 2013 Oscar look. Wearing Dior Couture, Jennifer looked positively radiant. And that skirt! Wow! How can you not love it? And paired with that gorgeous face, perfection.

The Oscars are the perfect end to a long award season and all eyes are on the red carpet to see who’ll be wearing what. Over the years there have been so many looks and styles and yet, some fashions we’ve absolutely loved (and others that we really haven’t). And I for one cannot wait for the Oscars 2015 and check out all the fashions from this year! What are your favorite Oscar looks?
