Models have a reputation for being ‘slashies’ (as in model-slash-actress or whatever) and lately we’ve seen a number of models turned fashion designers. Off the runway, models are becoming increasingly well-known for their signature styles and many are seizing the opportunity to build upon their personal brands. Being so immersed in the fashion industry, it’s no surprise that some models are taking their careers to the next level by turning to design. These are just some examples of models turned fashion designers.

1 Alessandra Ambrosio
Alessandra Ambrosio is one of the most recent additions to the list of models turned fashion designers. Her debut collection for Californian fashion and lifestyle brand Planet Blue is called Ále by Alessandra. The collection is inspired by the Brazilian model’s own laid-back Bohemian-inspired style and features plenty of soft fabrics and flowing shapes.
2 Lily Aldridge
Lily Aldridge has worked with Velvet by Graham & Spencer for 10 years now, so going from modeling to designing her own collections for the brand seemed to be a natural progression. She has released two capsule collections for the brand, consisting of versatile daywear pieces from plaid shirts and military-inspired jackets to sheer knitwear.

3 Kate Moss
Kate Moss’s stellar career reached even dizzier heights when she designed a collection exclusively for fashion chain Topshop back in 2007. The collection reflected her distinctive model-off-duty style and was a hit with shoppers. She went on to design 14 more collections for the brand before calling it quits. But not for long. The model recently reunited with the high street label to create an all new Kate Moss for Topshop collection.
4 Freja Beha Erichsen
Freja Beha Erichsen turned her hand at fashion design in 2013 when she worked with denim brand Mother. She teamed up with the brand’s co-founders to create a capsule collection of jeans, shirts, and sweaters. The collection was very much in keeping with the model’s signature off-duty look of skinny jeans, slouchy tops, and leather-look finishes.

6 Dree Hemingway
Model and actress Dree Hemingway teamed up with French label Sandro in 2012 to create a 10 piece capsule collection. The collection consisted of floaty, slouchy t-shirts, skinny jeans, cut-off-shorts, and assorted accessories.
7 Georgia May Jagger
Model and rock royalty offspring Georgia May Jagger collaborated with denim brand Hudson Jeans back in 2011. The twenty-piece collection was aptly called Hudson by Georgia May Jagger. The collection featured jeans in contemporary designs with slightly different cuts from Hudson’s usual designs.
8 Anja Rubik

9 Karen Elson
In 2011, Karen Elson released a footwear and handbag line in collaboration with Nine West’s Vintage America collection. An extension of her distinctive personal style, the collection featured a range of antique frame purses, leather boots, and vintage looking jewellery.
