7 Questions to Ask Yourself before Buying Clothes ...

You know, a lot of us are in the habit of buying impulsively instead of stopping to think carefully before buying clothes. This is a big part of how buyer’s regret happens. We make purchases thoughtlessly and then realize we should have considered our purchase more carefully. I have come up with a list of questions to ask yourself before buying clothes to prevent this from happening to you.

1 Is the Price Reasonable?

This may not be a question everyone asks themselves before buying clothes but it is on my list. I don’t mind paying for something I feel is worth it but I don’t want to feel like the price is totally unreasonable, either. I balance the answer to this question with the other questions listed here. For example, if it is a bit more expensive than I feel it should be but I plan on wearing it often, it may be worth paying the price for. Everyone is going to have a different answer to this question based on what they feel the value is and that is okay.

Frequently asked questions

2 How Often Will I Wear This?

I ask myself how often I will wear a clothing item before I purchase it. If it is something that I don’t feel I will wear very often then it may not be worth the purchase. I want to get my money’s worth out of an item and I imagine that most of you feel the same way. If it is something that I feel that I will wear often, I am going to feel more comfortable about purchasing it. I try to shop carefully and asking myself these questions helps me to do that.

3 Do I Have Something Similar?

My taste in clothing is so exact that I have to watch myself to be sure that I do not purchase the same clothing item with little variance over and over. I am very bad to do this. Because of this, I have begun to ask myself if I have a similar clothing item in my closet already before I make a purchase. This keeps me from ending up with five black tops or four white lace skirts. It is an important question for me to consider before making a purchase.

4 Will This Be out of Style Soon?

You know, I am always very wary of purchasing things that are trendy items. I am okay with buying them to a point. However, if it is something that I feel is going to be in style today and not tomorrow, I tend to pass. I am more likely to buy things that I can wear for a longer period of time and still be fashionable. If I do choose to purchase an item that is trendy right now, I usually tend to purchase a very cheap version of it and save the money to purchase something likely to have more life in it.

5 Does It Flatter Me?

For a long time, years ago, I bought a lot of dark green. Then I realized that although that was a beautiful color, it was all wrong for me and did nothing for me. I try to purchase items that flatter me, items that suit my figure with the cut of them and the way they look against my skin tone, hair color and eyes. I think this is something that we all must learn. If you feel unsure about what looks best on you, take a fashion savvy friend along on your next shopping venture.

6 Is It Versatile?

I want pieces that are versatile. It is even better if they can be swapped out with other outfits so I can extend my wardrobe. For this reason, I tend to buy a lot of solids. Solids just work well and are very versatile. They also lend an air of elegance to an everyday outfit. I think that the simplistic look brings the focus to your personal beauty rather than distracting from it.

7 Do I Love It?

Out of all of these, this is probably the question that I give the most weight to. I have learned that it is best to not make a purchase unless I love the item. This goes even if the item is on sale or if someone else thinks it would be perfect for me but I do not. I want to absolutely love the clothing item that I choose to purchase. I know that if I do, it will make me happy every time that I wear it.

These are the questions that I ask myself when I am debating a clothing purchase. Do you have a similar list? What questions do you ask yourself?
