Movies are a great place to find inspiration for your wardrobe. Movies can take you to another time and place and inspire you to switch things up in your wardrobe. Think of your favorite movies for inspiration and what comes to mind… Sex and the City, Clueless, or Almost Famous? But you can take inspiration from almost any movie you watch. Here are a few movies that have great fashion sense, but wouldn’t necessarily come to mind. So go pop them into your DVD player, make some popcorn, and get ready to transform your wardrobe.

1. Harry Potter

When you think of Harry Potter you think of magic, wizards, witches, and mythical creatures… I think of fashion. I know it's weird but I can't help but love their comfy and casual outfits. You can also find inspiration in the colors of each of the houses, or take a note from Hermione or Ginny and wear relaxed and comfortable outfits like jeans and layers of long sleeve shirts and sweaters. For something fancier model an outfit after Hermione’s dress to the Yule Ball or Ginny’s dress to Bill and Fleur’s wedding.

2. Sucker Punch

To be honest, this movie is a little weird and a bit hard to follow, especially when I am focusing on how adorable all the outfits are. The main character, Babydoll, wears mostly short school girl meets sailor inspired skirts and tight tied up crop tops. While it’s a little risqué and probably not appropriate for everyday wear, it’s a great place for inspiration. Try pairing a pleated navy skirt with a loose white button down and a navy headband for a more appropriate take on Babydoll’s outfit. If you really want to go all out, wear your hair in pigtails and you will be ready to rock your Sucker Punch outfit.

3. Great Gatsby

The Great Gatsby was my favorite book in middle school and the movie just made me love the story even more. I could just picture all the lavish parties Jay Gatsby threw, and wished I had been born in the 20's so I could wear fabulous flapper dresses. Luckily outfits inspired by the 20s are quickly becoming a hot trend, so now is the perfect time to find an adorable flapper dress. Take a note from Daisy Buchanan and wear light airy fabrics with long pearl necklaces to complete the look.

4. The Hunger Games

Because nothing says fashion inspiration like 24 teens fighting to the death in a televised event, right? The Hunger Games has tons of outfits that would be easy to take inspiration from. To replicate Katniss’s Reaping outfit, pair a light blue short sleeved dress with a light or neutral pair of flats. If you want to be more vibrant try replicating the fashion sense of the Capitol and wear tons of jewel tones with layers of extravagant jewelry. Or for a tougher look, take after Katniss’s uniform during the Hunger Games with olive green leggings, a comfy grey t-shirt, black lace up boots and a leather jacket.

5. The Notebook

Every girl has bawled their eyes out to The Notebook. And while it might be hard to see how adorable Allie’s clothes are through the tears, I am here to help you put together your perfect Notebook inspired outfit. A short sleeve A-line dress, preferably in light blue to imitate the famous kissing in the rain scene, would be something Allie would definitely approve of. Add in chunky heels, a bright red lipstick, and a vintage hairstyle to bring out your inner Allie.

6. Bridesmaids

I could easily quote this entire movie and my love for this hilarious comedy definitely shows in my wardrobe. This is such an easy movie to take fashion inspiration from because each character has a similar sophisticated style but with their own individual twist. The main character Annie tends to wear feminine and casual dresses with a black or navy blazer. If you are looking for a more chic look, take after Helen and wear tight yet conservative A-line dresses with oversized jewelry and kitten heels. With these Bridesmaids inspired outfits, the only thing that can make you more like the girls from Bridesmaids is an incredibly outrageous sense of humor.

7. Breakfast at Tiffany’s

Okay so it’s not exactly a «unique» movie to get fashion inspiration from, in fact it’s one of the most classic fashion movies there is! But I felt I couldn’t have a list of movies for fashion inspiration and not include this fabulous movie. If there is one thing to take away from this movie, it is the little black dress. Every girl needs one in her closet. But more than just that, take away how fabulous Holly Golightly is. No matter what she is doing or where she is, she surrounds herself with extravagance. Take inspiration from this and no matter what you do, feel incredible doing it. Surround yourself with little luxuries at all times in your life to feel as fabulous as Holly Golightly.

What do you think of the fashion in these movies? What’s your favorite movie for fashion inspiration? Do you have any other movies to take fashion inspiration from?
