No, I’m not suggesting that you get a whole new wardrobe! Instead, start with a clean and empty wardrobe. Take out all your clothes and then clean/dust/vacuum/wipe down your wardrobe space accordingly. This tip for how to streamline your wardrobe can be pretty time intensive, so set aside an afternoon (or a day depending on how hectic your wardrobe is) to really get stuck in.

2. Cull

Another tip for streamlining your wardrobe is to really assess its contents. Take out your clothes and sort them into piles to cull and to keep. Be ruthless when culling your clothes. Throw out anything that’s ill fitting, worn out, or that you just don’t wear anymore.

3. Keep

When sorting through your wardrobe, only keep the clothes that you wear regularly and that flatter you. If there are any items you’re unsure of then keep them in storage just in case. Only keeping the clothes you regularly wear helps decrease clutter and makes putting together outfits so much easier since you can actually see the clothes in your wardrobe.

4. Organise

Organise your wardrobe with a system that best suits you. This tip for how to streamline your wardrobe ensures that you know exactly where everything is and you don’t have to waste time rummaging around trying to find certain items.

5. Colour Coordinate

If you’re a bit of a neat freak like me, you’ll understand how soothing a colour coordinated wardrobe can be. It also helps keep your wardrobe organised – if you want to pull out a red dress then you can instantly gravitate towards the red section. Choosing what order colours go in can be tricky to but I generally use the Roy. G. Biv (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, violet) method of colour coordinating.

6. Uniformity

When looking at how to streamline your wardrobe, give it a sense of uniformity by using one style of coat hanger. While wooden hangers might look good, they actually take up a lot of space. Try a felt or velvet hanger instead as they are quite slim and your clothes are also less likely to slip off of them.

7. Recognise Gaps

When you’ve sorted and organised the clothes in your wardrobe, find the ‘gaps’ or the pieces that are missing. Write these down so that next time you go shopping you know exactly what you need. Having a list like this should also hopefully lessen the need for any impulse purchases and be much better for your wallet!

8. Show Discipline

Prevent your wardrobe from getting out of control by showing some discipline. A streamlined wardrobe should be full of garments that work well together. It’s all about getting maximum benefits from the bare minimum amount of clothes.

9. Regular Upkeep

At the end of each week or month, set aside a bit of time to reorganise and sort through your wardrobe. Doing this regularly will mean you won’t have to tear out your hair once a year trying to streamline your wardrobe. Doing a little bit goes a long way when it comes to streamlining your wardrobe.

If your wardrobe seems to be getting a bit cluttered and disorganised, then a clean out may be in order. These are just a few tips for streamlining your wardrobe that may help you out. Do you have any tips for how to streamline your wardrobe?
