As a style maven, I couldn't have been more surprised when I recently overheard a few guys discussing fashion trends that they saw as total deal breakers. Needless to say, my interest was piqued. As an experiment, I asked seven guys about the "biggest style mistakes" they think women make. More than anything, this list will prove why you shouldn't care what other people think and just wear whatever you want!

1. Sometimes, Crop Tops Look Really Uncomfortable

clothing,footwear,fashion,leg,photo shoot, Even though crop tops are all of the rage, they're apparently not a hit with everyone. Jeremy, 24, stressed that "I don't really get what's the purpose behind those cut off shirts. They just look uncomfortable to me."

I couldn't disagree more with this statement. As much as I hate to admit it, I sometimes spend hours trying to find the perfect outfit, regardless of where I'm going. That's what makes the crop top look so perfect. It's ridiculously simple to style and gives off a chic (not to mention sexy) vibe. I guess this is one deal breaker I'll definitely be sleeping on.

2. Apparently, Leggings Are Only for the Gym

clothing,footwear,outerwear,tights,fashion, Here's where things get a little interesting. When I asked Kyle, 30, what trend he wasn't a fan of, he immediately answered "Leggings! Or yoga pants. Just no. If you're not going to the gym, don't wear them."

I don't care what anyone says. If I find a pair of leggings or yoga pants that I feel comfortable both working out in and relaxing in my house, I'm wearing them. End of story! I'll never understand why leggings have gotten such a bad rep.

3. Wedge Sneakers Are NOT Very Functional

color,clothing,footwear,fashion,spring, When it comes to edgy wedge sneakers, James, 21, is not a fan. "They seem really counterproductive. Why would you want a heel in your sneakers? Plus, they look like they hurt."

I'm definitely giving this one some major side eye. Don't let their looks fool you. Wedge sneakers are super comfortable and functional. I can't be the only one who thinks wedges are hot!

4. Say Goodbye to Dark, Smokey Eyeliner

cap,clothing,black,knit cap,hat, Sean, 18, says thats he can do without eyeliner. "Sometimes, it looks mysterious. But more often than not, It's too much. I like the au naturale look."

I'm sorry but I have to disagree with this one! Smokey eye will always be en vogue. The crazy thing is that women who don't wear makeup get just as much flak for it as women who do.

5. Ladies, Those Sexy Shades You Love so Much Are a No Go

hair,clothing,beauty,hairstyle,eyewear, I find it really interesting that a few of the guys I questioned stood by this one. Jared, 19, said "Why are you hiding your face? I want to see you, not guess what you're feeling."

Hold it right there, mister. Not only are sunglasses a unisex style trend, they also serve their purpose. My case in point? If I'm not into strangers on the street who stare at my face, these babies are going on!

6. High Waisted Shorts Belong in the 80s

clothing,footwear,fashion,outerwear,spring, Some guys just don't understand the power of a good pair of shorts. Adam, 22, stresses that even though he thinks high waisted shorts are totally sexy, they don't really "look all that comfortable, to be honest."

Finally, there's one thing that we can agree on. High waisted shorts ARE sexy. They're also ridiculously flattering for all body types. If you find the right pair, it'll take your style level from beginner to expert.

7. Most of the Men Think Floppy Hats Are the Worst

I respectfully disagree. This response definitely surprised me. What could be so bad about a hat that is both stylish and functional? I don't know about you but that sounds like a good thing to me!

At the end of the day, you're basically damned if you do, and damned if you don't. The point of my experiment was to show that when it comes to fashion, you have two options. You can either listen to other people's opinions and let them dictate your life OR you can throw all of that out of the window and just do you girl! Did any of your favorite trends make the cut?

Where Thoughts and Opinions Converge

Sunglasses? Really? Does this guy not understand that they are meant to protect the eyes from sun damage? I can understand not wearing them indoors or when it is dark or cloudy, but come on...as far as leggings I am guilty of that, however I make sure they are opaque or I'm wearing a shirt long enough to cover my bottom. And I own one crop top but I have been busting my butt to get in shape so I want to show off a little. I have learned to dress for me and if it attracts guys, so be it. I more care whether it suits the weather, the occasion, and my age and body type, than suiting the personal opinion of others.

Shut up, apple! I wear yoga pants everyday, there more comfortable then any other pants

I can't stand high wasted pants or shorts. Low rise is soooo sexy

Oh and the smoky eyeliner is seriously stupid... The sunglasses are fine though.

I agree with the leggings part...unless worn with a long enough top to cover your butt, they just look ridiculous...not to be confused with tight skinny stretchy pants though: those are ok :)
