1. Trade Items
Do you have an older sister that's willing to give you her old clothes? How about a best friend that's roughly the same size as you? Find another girl in your life that is willing to trade clothes with you or even give you their old ones that they no longer fit into. As long as they kept the fabric clean, no one will know that they didn't come straight from the store.
2. Visit Thrift Shops
Follow Macklemore's advice and head on down to the nearest thrift shop. As long as they have a good reputation, you don't have to worry about getting fleas or bedbugs from the clothes that you buy. Just to be safe, you can wash them at home before you wear them.
3. Search Online
If you find a designer dress that you're dying to buy, don't do it. First, search through the Internet to see if you can find a similar dress that is way cheaper. Most designer dresses look exactly like the dresses you could find at K-Mart, but are just made out of different material or have slightly different designs. Search around before you buy anything designer, because you might end up finding something even better for way cheaper.
4. Buy a Little Bit at a Time
Instead of going on a huge shopping spree where you buy tons of new items, buy a little at a time. If you get a coupon for a skirt you like, buy it and wait to find matching shoes. You'll soon find a coupon for shoes and will be able to get the ones you like without wasting extra cash.
5. Get Creative
When you look through a store's discount rack, everything might look ugly at first glance. That's why you need to get creative. You might see a shirt that you'd never wear alone, but it would look good underneath another shirt or jacket you already own. You might see a pair of jeans with ugly legs, but you can cut them apart to make sexy shorts.
6. Be Brave
If you only wear solid colored clothing, you're limiting yourself. You need to step out of your comfort zone every once in a while. That way, you'll have a much wider selection to choose from when you go shopping.
7. Mix and Match
If you're smart enough, you don't actually need to buy more items for your wardrobe in order to make it look like you've expanded it. Instead, you can look at all of your clothes and find new ways to mix and match them. Don't wear your favorite shirt with your favorite pair of jeans every single time. Try pairing it with something new. You could even just add a statement necklace to something to create an entirely different look.
You don't need to be rich in order to expand your wardrobe. You can do so with only a few bucks if you're smart about it! What kind of clothes are you itching to shop for?
