1. The Meat Dress
Of course the Meat Dress has to top the list of Lady Gaga’s most outrageous outfits. After the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards, this dress was the only thing anyone could talk about. The meat dress was designed Franc Fernandez and styled by Nicola Formichetti. Gaga wore the dress to make a statement about the now-repealed “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy. When speaking to Ellen DeGeneres about the meat dress, Gaga said, “If we don't stand up for what we believe in and if we don't fight for our rights, pretty soon we're going to have as much rights as the meat on our own bones. And I am not a piece of meat.” After the VMAs, a group of taxidermists preserved the meat dress by turning it into some form of jerky and you can now see it in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
2. Hair Dress
Lady Gaga wore this creation by Charlie le Mindu while performing her song “Monster” during her Monster Ball Tour. One of the craziest things about this outfit is that the head piece has no support – it is literally standing up with just air! While Gaga has been known to wear hair in the past, this is by far her most outrageous hair-inspired ensemble!

3. The Kermit the Frog Jacket
Back in 2009, Lady Gaga did an interview with a German television show wearing a jacket made out of Kermit the Frog dolls. This outrageous creation was designed by Jean-Charles de Castelbajac. He is known for his Muppet-inspired designs, so it’s no wonder Lady Gaga has been spotted in his outfits more than once!
4. The Pearl Outfit
Gaga’s “pearl outfit” was a collaboration between herself, the Haus of Gaga, Nicola Formichetti, and Terence Koh. This outrageous outfit is the perfect example of how thought out all of Gaga’s looks actually are. She wore the pearls to the 2010 AmfAR Gala where she performed her song “Future Love.” During the performance, Gaga takes a drink from her teacup and then a string of pearls comes out of her mouth. Before the performance, they counted out 88 pearls. It HAD to be 88 pearls. If you listen to the lyrics to the song “Future Love,” you will see why. 88 is the number of constellations in the sky as defined by the International Astronomical Union. “My mascara runs in constellations for you dear, my dear. If only I could outer space in my brain for a minute I’d think clear” (Lady Gaga – "Future Love"). The number 8 is also the symbol for infinity, so 88 symbolizes the double directions of the infinity of the universe. Wow!
5. The “Illusion” Dress
In September of 2012, Lady Gaga was being harassed by the media for what they were calling a “massive weight gain.” In addition to starting an online campaign about loving your body, she had a little fun with the media by wearing this oversized dress by Comme des Garçons when she arrived in Paris for a concert. She completed the look with bespoke Aperture sunglasses by Daniel Stephen and royal blue lace-up boots by Pleaser.

6. White Cage Dress
I was fortunate enough to see the Born This Way Ball before Gaga had to cancel the show due to her hip injury. This white cage dress by Void of Course x Brandon Maxwell is paired with a custom Void of Course mask. Gaga wears this jaw-dropping dress while performing her mega-hit "Bad Romance."
7. The Living Dress
Lady Gaga first premiered the living dress in Liverpool back in February 2010, but she has worn it several times since then, most notably during the song “So Happy I Could Die” during her Monster Ball tour. The dress got its name because most of the dress moves. The bottom of the dress can open and close to expose her legs, the wings pop out, and her headpiece moves throughout the performance. This dress is truly breathtaking.
8. Jo Calderone
When Lady Gaga was set to open the VMAs in 2011, no one expected Jo Calderone to go in her place. By now, we all know that Jo is her alter ego, but nevertheless, I was shocked when she came walking out on the stage in full drag. In my opinion, this is one of Lady Gaga’s best and most outrageous outfits.
9. Brit Awards Lace Outfit
On the red carpet at the Brit Awards, Lady Gaga wore a multi-tiered white frock, but the real star of the show was what she was wearing underneath. Gaga performed in a barely-there lace body suit designed by Alex Noble. Gaga’s performance came not long after the tragic death of Alexander McQueen. She dedicated her performance to him and Alex Noble designed her outfit to be reminiscent of his 1996 archive. Her look was spot on from her hair all the way down to her heels.
10. Headless Corpse Gown
Via Twitter, Lady Gaga promised her fans she would “sing her head off” during her X Factor performance and sing her head off she did –quite literally! This theatrical performance piece is a one-of-a-kind creation by the Haus of Gaga. The gown was nearly 9ft long! Do you think the look comes across high fashion or just too costumey?
11. Orbital Dress
Gaga stunned at the Grammy’s in 2010 when she showed up wearing this galactic Armani Privé dress. Armani was faced with the task of creating all of Gaga’s outfits for the evening, but her red carpet dress was by far the most gasp-inducing. Underneath the dress, Gaga wore a bodysuit that covered her from head to toe; even her head, fingers, and shoes were apart of the body suit. The star she held in her hand was the perfect touch to this one-of-a-kind dress. This dress still remains my favorite Gaga outfit of all time.
12. Wedding Dress
Lady Gaga ignored the clichés about wedding dresses when she showed up wearing this gown on the Graham Norton show. The dress and headpiece were custom made by Sorcha O’Raghallaigh. Everything from her hair, makeup, and shoes are spot on for this outrageous look. Do you think it’s bad luck to wear a wedding dress to an event that’s not your wedding?
13. Telephone “Crime Scene Tape”
What makes this Gaga outfit so outrageous and great is that it’s so cheap that anyone could recreate it. Literally all you need is a role of crime scene tape! Even though the concept is simple, to make it perfect, designer Brian Lichtenberg custom made the “outfit” for her.
Lady Gaga’s outrageous outfits are the main reason every designer is begging to dress her. She can pull off almost any look and does it with enviable confidence. Which of these outfits do you think is the most outrageous?
