8 Tips for Dressing Warmly in Extreme Cold ...

If you live in a place where it gets very cold, you may benefit from my tips for dressing warmly in extreme cold! I live very far north, and during the wintertime the temps can drop well below zero on any given day. I’ve learned several tips for dressing warmly that have kept me nice and snug on many occasions. Please keep reading if you would love to know what they are!

1. Layers

It took me a while to remember this hint, but it’s one of the best tips for dressing warmly. Wearing layers seals your body heat in better than anything! Layer tanks under t-shirts, under jackets or sweaters. Layer leggings under bandage skirts. Layer jackets over vests, over button up shirts. Be creative, and remember to layer!

2. Leg Warmth

Some days, it’s so cold that jeans don’t even keep your legs warm! On these days, you have to put a pair of fleece-lined leggings underneath your jeans. I’ve gotten strange looks when I advise people to do this, but trust me, it works. Your legs will be toasty warm, and no one will be the wiser!

3. Wear a Hat and Scarf

Did you know that 80% of your body heat escapes through your head? Wearing a hat in the winter can make a whole world of difference in how warm you stay. You can choose a hat based on your personal preferences, but any style will help lock in the heat. It’s also a good idea to wear a scarf, since your neck area holds a lot of body heat as well. You can opt for fashionable scarves or big fluffy scarves meant for outdoor wear only. And don’t forget about earmuffs! They can protect against bitter wind, and keep you looking super cute.

4. Coat Tips

If you live in a place where it stays cold 6 months or more out of the year like me, chances are you may already own a few coats. But I wanted to share a few tips on choosing a good coat. Make sure you buy a heavy coat, designed for cold temps. Most fashion coats aren’t meant to be worn in sub-zero climates. It is possible to find a fashionable coat that will keep you warm though. Just look for heavy linings and durable, thick outer material. Make sure you own a coat in both brown and black, that way you can match your outfits. And it’s a good idea to have a ski jacket on hand, or a puffer jacket made with ski material. This kind of fabric seals out cold wind and keeps you extra warm!

5. Fingerless Gloves

Fingerless gloves are a bright way to keep your hands warm without taking away the use of your fingers! I love how these accessories can add a bit of edge to your outfit as well. Look for a pair in a neutral color, but don’t be afraid to go bright and bold for fun. A little color can add some spice to an otherwise boring and drab winter outfit!

6. How to Wear a Dress in Winter

I love to wear dresses year round, so people always ask me how in the world I keep warm while wearing a dress in the wintertime! It’s simple really. All you need is a pair of tights, a pair of leggings, a pair of boot socks, and boots! Put these on under your dress, and you will be cozy and warm. You can wear maxi dresses or shorter dresses with this method. For a little extra warmth, wear a slip under your dress too.

7. Jackets and Sweaters

Sometimes, there’s nothing that brings more comfort on a cold and miserable day than a big, fluffy, warm sweater. Keep a large supply on hand for those bitterly chilly days! But when you just need a break from all that fuzz, reach for a jacket! You can opt for a tailored blazer, a soft cardigan, a jean jacket, or maybe something with a cute pattern. Either way, jackets will keep you warm under your coat, and they are a good way to stay stylish while keeping warm.

8. Rock the Boots

Where I live, there’s snow on the ground for the entire winter season, so I rarely switch up my footwear from boots. To keep from getting bored or tired of boots, I add to my collection yearly! I have tall boots, short boots, flat boots, high-heeled boots, fancy boots, casual boots, soft boots, sleek boots, slouchy ruched boots, edgy boots, and feminine boots, just to name a few. If you wear boots as often as I do, make sure you own plenty of colors and styles so you don’t get bored. There is nothing worse than deciding to wear flats one day out of sheer boredom, and then stepping into 9 inches of snow.

So, now you know that it’s possible to dress warmly and still look cute while it’s bitter cold outside! Do you have any tips and guidelines of your own to follow when dressing to stay warm? I love hearing from my readers, so please comment below! Thank you!
