When you’re trying to create a cohesive wardrobe, it can be pretty difficult. However, it can be even more difficult when you’re on a budget. If you’re looking to create a wardrobe but don’t know where to start because you’re on a budget, this list is perfect for you! You’ll find tips and tricks to help you cultivate the perfect wardrobe in no time at all!
1. Pick a Color Palette
You would be surprised by just how much picking a color palette can help you when you’re trying to create a wardrobe on a budget. If you pick a color palette that you’re going to stick with, your entire wardrobe instantly becomes much more versatile. You don’t have to worry about putting new outfits together because you have an endless variety of different outfits.
2. Pick a Style
In the same way, picking a style that you love and are sure you will love for a while is just as important. Just like when you pick a color palette, when you pick a style, your entire wardrobe matches and you can put outfits together out of everything and anything in your closet!
3. Invest in Classic Pieces
There are those classic pieces that you can be sure you’ll want for years to come. For example, when I was in high school, I found two pairs of Ray-Ban Wayfarers that I loved. One pair was covered in glitter, and the other pair was just plain, classic black. Although I loved the glitter sunglasses then, I knew that Ray-Bans were a big investment, and that I’d probably love the classic black pair more in the long run. I was right, because now I’m almost done with college and still wear them everyday. You know what will be a classic in your wardrobe. Those are the pieces worth investing in.
4. Make a List of the Essentials
To avoid impulse buys of pieces that you really don’t need and liked at the time, make a list of what you need to build your wardrobe. Write down a list of pieces that are missing from your wardrobe, and then come up with a list of pieces you have wanted for a while but haven’t been able to afford. This will definitely help you stop the temptation of those impulse buys!
5. Befriend Coupon Websites
I don’t know how people couponed before the days of the Internet, because now websites like RetailMeNot make life so much easier. If you’re on a tight budget, coupon websites and websites that sell gently-used designer clothes are the best places to find amazing deals on clothes in your budget!
6. Take Your Time
If you really have your heart set on certain items, take your time. Don’t rush and buy something you only like because it’s an item you’ve had on your list for a while and it’s in your budget. Wait until you find the piece that you really, truly love, and it just happens to be on your list and in your budget. These aren’t just items to check off your list, they’re what you’ll live in!
7. Search Your Closet
The gems you find in your closet when you just spend a little time searching it would surprise you. There may be pieces that ended up in the back of your closet that you’ve completely forgotten you had. You may fall in love with certain pieces again. Shop your own closet; you never know what you may find!
